Oats+Pulusu!

Simple recipe with Oats & Tamarind juice!

Set1 Ingredients:

  • Oil – 3tsps
  • Mustard seeds – 1tsp
  • Jeera – 1tsp
  • Onion – 1/4
  • Green chilies – 3
  • Okra – 1cup (I used frozen)
  • Drumsticks – 6 pieces
  • Kale – 1 small cup ( chop, soak in hot water for 2mins & drain the water)
  • Tomato – 1(cut into small pieces)
  • Curry leaves – 10
  • Hing – 6splashes
  • Turmeric – 1/4tsp
  • Red chilli powder – 1tsp
  • Dhania powder – 1tsp

Set 2 Ingredients:

  • Tamarind juice – 2 cups(you can adjust according to your taste)
  • Water – 3 cups
  • Steel cut oats (available in Costco) – 2 cups
  • Salt (according to your taste)

Procedure:

  1. Place pressure cooker on medium flame, add 3tsps of oil. Once oil is heated add set1 ingredients one by one, saute for 5mins.
  2. Next add tamarind juice, water & salt. Once water reaches boiling point add oats mix well  check the taste & adjust if anything is needed. Pressure cook for 4 vessels. Once the pressure is off, add cilantro & mix well and serve hot(ghee always adds up more taste 😉 )

Dosa with Oats!!

Dosa’s with Oats!! Yay!!

Ingredients:

  • Oats – 1 cup (grind into coarse powder)
  • Roasted wheat flour vermicelli – 1/2cup (grind into coarse powder)
  • Curd(sour) – 1 or 2 cups
  • Salt – according to your taste
  • Onion – 1/4(cut into small pieces)
  • Green chilies – 2(cut into small pieces)
  • Jira – 1/2tsp
  • Grated carrot – 3tsps

 

Procedure:

  1. Mix all ingredients and soak overnight. Make batter into dosa consistency.
  2. Turn on the  stove  & put dosa pan. Once pan is heated add 2-3drops of oil & spread on across the pan. Then pour batter & spread like dosa. Once it cooked, flip dosa & take it out.
  3. See how simple is that! You can serve with any chutney!!

 

Bisibelebath with Oats!!

Bisibelebath with Oats….yummy!! It is pretty simple! Specially it is good substitute for RICE! And I am pretty sure all rice lovers will enjoy this recipe!!

Set 1 Ingredients:

  • Moong dal – 3/4thcup
  • Oats – 1 cups
  • Carrots – 3(medium size) cut into small pieces
  • Tomatoes – 2(cut into small pieces)
  • Okra – 5 (cut into medium cubes)
  • Green peas – 1/4cup
  • Dosakai / Cucumber – 1/2
  • Red chilli powder – 2tsp(or according to your taste)
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2tsp
  • Tamarind juice – 1small cup (or you can adjust as per your taste)
  • Water – 5cups
  • Bisibelebath powder 2tsps

Set 2 Tadka:

  • Oil – 2tsps
  • Mustard seeds- 1tsp
  • Jira – 1tsp
  • Hing – 3splashes
  • Curry leaves – 10
  • Red chilies – 3

 

Procedure:

  1. Pressure cook all set 1 for 4 to 5 vessels, once pressure is out add salt, tamarind juice mix well, check taste & adjust anything if needed.
  2. Take small pan, turn on the stove. Once oil is heated add all tadka ingredients & transfer the mix to step 1. Mix well & serve hot. It is good substitute for rice. You won’t even know the difference !!

P.S: I tricked my kids saying that it is rice bisibelebath and they believed me!! later I revealed the secret 😉 They enjoyed the new recipe!! I hope you guys enjoy too!!

Daddojanam with Oats!

Who said daddojanam can be made with rice ONLY?? I will teach you how to make with Oats.

Ingredients:

Oats – 1cup; cook it with water until it is completely cooked & add sour curd – 2cups,salt – according to your taste, tumeric – 1/4tsp.

For tadka:

  • Oil – 2tsps
  • Mustard seeds- 1tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1/2tsp
  • Methi seeds – 4
  • Tomato -1, cut into small pieces
  • Curry leaves – 10
  • Cilantro – 1tsp(optional)
  • Hing – 2 pinches

Procedure:

Put small pan on the stove, on it & add oil & add one by one tadka ingredients, pinch of turmeric again, once tomato is half cooked off the stove & transfer to the oat meal, mix well & serve hot. See how simple is that!

Note: you can add grated coconut to tadka as well
